How We Test

Stop Guessing. Start Auditing.

Most local business owners buy SEO packages blind. They hand over $2,500 a month. They receive an automated PDF report full of vanity metrics. We built this review process to stop that cycle. We audit actual agency deliverables, software tools, and pricing tiers. We look at the raw data. We expose the gap between sales pitches and actual map pack movement.

Our methodology strips the mystery out of local search pricing. We do not rely on marketing brochures or sales calls. We look at the actual work performed on the account.

Three months of tracking. Real client data. Zero guesswork.

How We Select What To Cover

We ignore the noise. We select local SEO packages, citation services, and reporting software based on market footprint and direct reader requests. If an agency claims to dominate the HVAC market in Phoenix, we find their actual clients. We analyze tools that promise automated directory management. We target the specific pricing tiers businesses actually buy, from $500 monthly starter plans to $5,000 enterprise local campaigns.

We source our review subjects through three distinct channels. First, we purchase software subscriptions directly. Second, we partner with local business owners who allow us to audit their active agency retainers. Third, we track the most aggressive local SEO vendors pitching services to our readers.

We focus entirely on services that directly impact local visibility. If a tool only tracks national keyword rankings, we do not review it here.

Our Evaluation Criteria

We measure what actually drives revenue.

We do not care about generic search volume. We care about phone calls, form fills, and map pack visibility across specific zip codes. Our evaluation focuses on exact deliverables. We break down every service or software into four strict categories.

  • GBP Optimization Depth: We check if the provider seeds the Q&A section, optimizes service menus, and actively manages Google Business Profile updates. We look for actual conversion optimization, not just a logo upload.
  • Citation Authority: We verify whether the service builds manual placements on high-trust data aggregators. We check for NAP consistency. We penalize services that blast your business information to toxic, low-traffic directories.
  • Review Velocity: We analyze their methods for generating customer feedback. We check if their software integrates with your actual point-of-sale system or if they rely on risky, non-compliant tactics that trigger account suspensions.
  • Reporting Transparency: We read their monthly reports. We look for actual cost-per-acquisition metrics. We penalize agencies that hide behind irrelevant national search rankings while your local phone stops ringing.

The 90-Day Time Investment

Local SEO requires time. You cannot review an SEO campaign in a week.

We track service deliverables for a minimum of 90 days to see actual proximity signal changes. We monitor map pack fluctuations across different geographic coordinates while auditing the backlink profile at day one, day thirty, and day ninety. We read the actual communications the agency sends to the client. We verify every single link built.

Month one focuses on the technical audit and onboarding friction. We measure how quickly the agency or software identifies existing NAP inconsistencies. Month two tracks the implementation phase. We look for live citation updates and GBP modifications. Month three measures the actual movement in the local pack. We calculate the exact return on investment based on the monthly fee.

What We Refuse To Review

We maintain strict editorial boundaries. We refuse to cover certain services.

We ignore agencies that guarantee first-place rankings. We reject black-hat GBP verification services that use fake addresses. We skip generic national SEO packages masquerading as local solutions. If a provider relies on private blog networks or automated spam submissions, we do not review them.

We only evaluate services that operate within defensible, sustainable local search guidelines. If a tactic puts your Google Business Profile at risk of a hard suspension, we blacklist the provider immediately.

The People Doing The Testing

Levierush Patarlas leads our evaluation team. He brings years of hands-on local SEO optimization experience. He has audited hundreds of GBP profiles and fixed countless broken citation networks for plumbers, roofers, and medical clinics.

He knows exactly what a $3,000 monthly retainer should actually buy. He spots automated filler work immediately. He built this methodology to protect local budgets from predatory agency contracts. He writes every review based on raw data and operational reality.

How We Update Our Reviews

Google updates the local algorithm constantly. Proximity signals shift. Citation value changes.

We revisit our top software and agency reviews quarterly. If a reporting tool loses API access to Google, we flag it. If an agency drops their communication standards or outsources their fulfillment to cheap overseas vendors, we downgrade their score. We adjust our pricing benchmarks as the market evolves.

We keep the data accurate.
